Tuesday, November 18: After reviewing yesterday's practice work, students worked to identify examples of figurative language and juxtaposition in the chapter "Sweetheart of the Song of Tra Bong." Homework: Read the assigned chapters for tomorrow.

Friday, November 1: After going to a College Visit students took a Kahoot on the visit. Students then worked on their 20% Time Project. Homework: Continue working on your 20% Time Project.
Thursday, October 31: After a review of some business and a Kahoot on occupations, students took notes on how to write a good body paragraph. After this work students took a quiz on the first chapter of the novel using the notes the took on the book and the notes they took on writing a good paragraph. Homework: Read the next three chapters "Love," "Spin," and "On the Rainy River" for next Wednesday.
Wednesday, October 30: After a fire drill students reflected on their skills and work habits in the class. Homework: Make sure the first chapter is done for tomorrow.

Students then started reading the novel The Things They Carried. Homework: Read the first chapter for tomorrow being sure to take notes on the characters and the things they carried.

Friday, September 27: Today students went to the Moving Wall as a means to have some understanding when we read The Things They Carried. Homework: Make sure your next draft is done for Monday.
Thursday, September 26: In today's class students worked to analyze one last Moth story and compare their story to it. This comparison should allow students to continue to edit and revise their own stories. Homework: Have next draft for Monday. (Purpose: to be able to get feedback for our performance.)
Wednesday, September 25: After word puzzles, the class looked at Mrs. Thibodeau's Moth story together as a means to look at detail and consider openings and closings. Students then had time to work.
Homework: Have the next draft of your story ready. (Purpose: To compare it to a Moth story and make further revisions.)
Tuesday, September 24: Students started the day in class where they received a graphic organizer to complete during the College and Career Fair. After this time, the class was supposed to go to an assembly, but it got cancelled, and so, students had more time to work on their Moth draft for tomorrow. Homework: Have a draft of your story done for tomorrow. (Purpose: to craft a story and edit with a classmate tomorrow.)
Monday, September 23: In today's class, after discussing some business information about tomorrow, students watched another Moth story to compare it to the commonalities and elements we noticed. Students then had time to work on crafting and drafting their own story. Homework: Have a draft done of your story. (Purpose: to craft your story and be able to edit it with a classmate on Wednesday.)
Friday, September 20: Before getting into The Moth work, students reviewed the college fair materials. They will work more with this on Monday. The class then discussed The Moth stories as a means to identify commonalities. Homework: Have 2-3 stories outlined for Monday.
Thursday, September 19: After finishing our notes on sentence structures and then practicing identifying sentences types, students watched Moth videos to analyze for strengths and weaknesses. Homework: Now that you've seen some Moth examples, continue to consider possible stories you can tell... (Purpose: to be prepared for class activities and work that will need to be done.)
Wednesday, September 18: During our first Writing Wednesday, students took notes on clauses and the four sentence structures. Homework: Explain the Moth unit to someone and have them help you think of stories about you or that involve you.
Tuesday, September 17: Today we put aside our discussion work to focus on starting our Moth unit. The organization was explained and the syllabus reviewed. Students then worked on a story activity as a means to "see" how stories work best. Homework: Explain the Moth unit to someone and have them help you think of stories about you or that involve you.
Monday, September 16: After reviewing Thursday's discussion, the good, the bad, and the ugly, the class read an article on opinions to prepare for another discussion. Homework: None.
Friday, September 13: Today's class began with a "Tell Me Something Good" check in and was followed by the pretest. Homework: None.
Thursday, September 12: After logging into various websites for the first time, for future purposes, the class had their practice discussion. It was very eye-opening for Mrs. Thibodeau and it will drive her preparation of Monday's class time. Remember, tomorrow we will take the pretest. Homework: None.
Wednesday, September 11: In today's class, students discussed various aspects of reading and discussing literature, including levels of reading, inferences, and questioning. Students practiced reading for a discussion with an article on social media. Homework: None, if you finished reading the article. If you didn't, please remember to read it for the Four "A"s: 1. the Assumptions the author makes, 2. the things you Agree with, 3. the things you want to Argue with (disagree), and 4. the things, as based on the article, you want to Act upon (you aspire to).
Tuesday, September 10: Today's class was spent "unpacking" the grade 9-10 ELA standards so that students can use them and consider them while they are learning. Homework: Watch the linked video and take notes on the Three Levels of Reading. As you watch and take notes, consider the types of questions that accompany each level. (Purpose: To be prepared for tomorrow's class and to move into discussion about these ideas and practice work.)
Monday, September 9: After wrapping up our mindset work, students worked on goals and inspiration, setting up their binder, and looking at the standards, which we will continue with tomorrow. Homework: Finish whatever wasn't finished in class today as a means to be prepared for tomorrow's class.
Friday, September 6: In today's class, students reviewed the Code of Conduct, discussed consequences, and then signed the code. The class then discussed the various types of mindset and how they can impact a person. Homework: None. Have an awesome weekend!
