Gothic Literature is an exploration of the genre beginning with the earliest of Gothic works and moving to more modern works. In this class students will be exposed to varying types of Gothic literature as well as critical essays about Gothic works.

Students will read a wide range of texts to build an understanding of Gothic literature, fear and psychology.
Students will read a wide range of literature from many periods to build an understanding of many dimensions (e.g. philosophical, ethical, aesthetic) of human experience.
Students will apply a wide range of strategies to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and appreciate texts. They will draw on their prior experience, their interactions with other readers and writers, their knowledge of word meaning and their understanding of textual features.
Students will apply knowledge of language structure and conventions to create, critique, and discuss texts.
